Tumzee's Story
Hello there!
My husband and I were inspired by our baby daughter to invent a baby product for "tummy time". As you may know, tummy time can be a very frustrating experience for babies because they do not have the strength in their neck, back and arms in order to keep their heads up off the ground , however, tummy time is essential in the development of all babies.
Experts recommend 30 minutes a day of tummy time for infants 0 to crawling age (around 8-9 months in most cases) at 5-10 minute intervals throughout the day. SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Symdrome) has played a big part in reducing the amount of time babies spend on their stomachs because of the recommendations from Pediatriacians for them to sleep on their backs which contributes to "flat heads" (positional plagiocephaly) and possibly permanent damage to their skull.
Most babies do not enjoy being on their stomachs and get frustrated almost immediately, as do parents as well. As a result, we as parents, end up picking them up and therefore, they are deprived from the "tummy time" needed to develop their gross and fine motor skills which lead to crawling and eventually walking.
There are a few products on the market for tummy time but unlike "TUMZEE", they do not keep the babies in the same position or stop them from sliding down. Babies at birth need to be propped up in order to make tummy time more enjoyable, that is why "TUMZEE" is the best option because it props them up when they are newborns (as soon as baby can support head on their own). Also, once babies start rolling over they do not stay on their tummies anymore.
The design of "TUMZEE" helps prevent them from rolling over once they get older and the "T" support stops them from sliding down and off of the product. As they get older they stay on it longer periods of time. Our daughter at 5 months would stay on it playing with toys for up to 45 minutes!!!!! and even now, she's 12 months and still enjoys playing on it with her toys, looking at a book, listening to a story or even watching baby videos.
